Silly Shark Sock

My friend Ruth is a great sport - she hinted that she’d like this for Silly Sock Day (in aid of Autism) - having lost a leg makes this an even more wicked joke!

It’s a real shame I couldn’t get hold of a copy of the best shark sock pattern, Shark Sock Week, this is the best of the alternatives that I could find at the time.

I’ve not done much crochet so this was a nice challenge for me (and the reason that the tail is untidy and gets neater closer to the front!)

I absolutely love it and think mine looks better than the pattern (tips - use a blue/grey for the body, embroider small eyes and sew some blood-red yarn around the teeth)

Ravelry project here

Woolly Wednesday - yellow, green, blue, red

it's Woolly Wednesday again and a great opportunity to once again show off my finished bathroom curtains project.

Woven from merino wool / silk, spindle spun. I drum carded the dyed merino with white, well blended but there's still some variance in the colour which is nice. Warp is commercial cottolin, woven on a 4-shaft 32" loom. Pattern is a herringbone twill, more photos including the draft on Flickr

Finishing the curtains means that I've been able to officially start this sock project. I've now finished spinning this really lovely fibre from Yummy Yarns, it's BFL / Bamboo dyed in 'Water Sprite' colours (I especially love the bluey green). This time I've spun really fine, again by hand spindle, and navajo (chain) plied to concentrate the colours. I have two skeins of reasonably fine 4-ply (which *should* be identical, I split the fibre down the middle) and I'm looking forward to seeing how the colours stripe when knitted.

Another dormant WIP  may see some action soon is my Tatiana pullover. I'm not spinning this one but using Ashford's Tekapo 100% wool in dark red (looks brighter in the photo than it really is). I'm dipping my toe in the crochet pool, I'm relatively new to it. This jumper has a lovely 'shell' pattern made from puff stitches, which I'm enjoying.

crochet chocs for valentine's?

There have been loads of Valentine's day patterns around, many heart-shaped and almost all pink or red, but this is by far my favourite.

Rather than make the box and all the chocs, I've only had time to make a few and find a nice sweetie box.

I'm thinking a nice table-decoration for our forthcoming holiday which is to celebrate two birthdays and an anniversary!

Glitter belt

This is all I've managed to achieve so far with my glitter belt that I mentioned ages ago! Its taken sooo long as I kept getting the pattern wrong. I was so determined to get it all perfect so I kept pulling it out. Lost count of how many times, but when the holes don't match up what choice do you have?.....
I love the colours and glitter in the thread and it was such a contrast to use after the chunky wool I used for the chunky funky bag!
Will post photos of the finished article when its long enough to reach around my waist (don't hold your breath).

Crochet by the pool

This is as first for me. I actually took my crochet on holiday with me! No I didn't spend all day sitting there in the sun crocheting, but you know how it is, after all that walking, shopping, swimming, sunbathing and eating, you need to chill out and unwind. What better way than to finish the 'funky' bag that I had promised Helen.
Its a chunky Aran wool in random purples, turquoises and blues. Such a treat to use.
Next project is going to another extreme. Goldfingering (crochet thread) very fine and sparkly and quite a contrast, so watch this space, I feel another belt coming on.......

Funky bag.

Since the passport bag and belt, which I forgot to mention before, are awaiting ceramic buttons from Helen, I have been unable to resist buying wonderful wool from charity shops, (is there a name for this condition?) and have since completed this bag from the book Peahen bought me for Christmas. Is there no stopping me...........?

My first post!

These two unfinished projects mark my return to crochet ( the last things I made were tank tops in the 60's). It took some geting back into, but with a little help and encouragement from Susan Flint, a crocheter(?) from Caister on Sea, and Peahens book. (see photo) Now I cant stop!
